Chapter 1
Mia
"Mother, I'm back" I said as I dropped the vegetables I harvested from the farm into a burlap sack.
"Mia, you are overworking yourself. Don't struggle for me anymore, just get married and live your life" my mother said again.
"Mother, you know that it is entirely impossible for me to leave your side and besides, the right man will come when it is time" I smiled in reassurance.
Indeed, I was not ready for marriage. All I want is to see a smile on my mother's face, and know that she is eating and resting well. I don't want her worrying about me. After my father died during the war, things had been hectic for my mother and I. I didn't have many friends, mostly because of our lack of wealth, and because we lived in an isolated part of the village. Every morning, I would harvest the crops and vegetables I had planted, and go sell them at the village market. Then find my way home to cook for mother. We live a simple life, not full of worries.
"Mia, I'm getting older now and I'd like to see some grandchildren," she patronized again, and I smiled and shook my head, as I always did.
"Mother, you worry too much. Don't worry, I'll get you a grandchild one day," I smiled.
After preparing a mid day meal for mother, I went out to finish harvesting the crops before winter.
Alex
"You went out again!" my father shouted angrily and I tensed.
"Yes father," I said.
There was no way I could deny this one. Everyone had known.
"Alex, how many times do I have to tell you, do not leave the palace grounds," he said tiredly.
"I'm sorry father," I sighed.
"You know what, this ends now. You need to find a wife, then maybe you won't keeping running off!" My father stood up from his red velvet throne.
"No father, I can't get married now," I argued.
"I'm finding you a wife, whether you like it or not." he said matter-of-factly.
I sighed. There was no more discussion. However, I was not ready for marriage. In fact, I had new adventures planned.
"Your Majesty, let us try be more patient with Prince Alexander. I understand he requires more restrictions and punishment, but I'm certain he'll change eventually," the Prime Minister tried.
"I do not have time for eventually. You are dismissed." My father's word was final.
I left and headed for my quarters.
"See, I warned you it was a bad idea to leave the Castle," Clint said once I'd reached the doorway.
Clint is my personal Guard.
"Oh be quiet Clint," I rolled my eyes as I walked past him and fell on my bed.
"And now you're under a much harsher curfew," he reminded me.
I lifted my head to look at him and smiled knowingly.
"I've always had a harsh curfew Clint, but you know I always find interesting ways around that," I smirked.
"Oh no. If you are thinking of leaving the Palace again, I'm not going to support you this time" he warned me.
"Come on, I won't get caught again. I promise." I begged.
"Your Highness, would you like me to remind you where you just came from."
"I won't get into trouble this time around, I have a much more thought out plan this time," I said.
A few moments past, Clint still in deep thought.
"Alright," he unwillingly agreed with a sigh.
